As part of the Rebel Planet Series world, I've been working on an "introduction" to the pre-flood world by writing a pseudo fantasy novel following the post-flood character of Abraham. I've always been fascinated by Abraham. I've always wondered - "growing up in a pagan culture of Ur in Sumeria, where did he get his faith in God?" This series will explore that theme and is ultimately a story of the young Abraham's conversion.
Another inspiration for the story is this: If you take the genealogy of Genesis absolutely literally with no gaps, then Abraham would have been in his early 20's when Noah died. So, what would happen if Abraham ever met Noah? What would that interaction be like? Well, another interesting tid-bit is that there is an ancient non-biblical writing produced near the time of Abraham and generally in his same culture called the Epic of Gilgamesh (well, the story came a little later than Abraham and is of Babylonian origin, but may well have been inspired by a real Gilgamesh in Sumeria around the time of Abraham). In the Epic of Gilgamesh there is this king Gilgamesh and another character named Enkidu (they fight at first, then become friends). Well, in this Epic, the Gilgamesh character actually goes and seeks out the Babylonian equivalent of Noah (his name is Utnapishtim and according to Babylonian legend he is the sole survivor of the "Great Flood"). So in my fantasy conception, I have the early story of Abraham being the inspiration for the writing of the Epic of Gilgamesh. Only I change it a bit and have Abraham actually be this Enkidu (though he is friends with Gilgamesh, King of Uruk (which is 20 miles from Ur where Abraham grew up)).
I'm currently about 2/3 of the way done with a first draft of book 1. I may release a few of the early chapters here in the forum or on the blog if anyone is interested...
